Integrative Multi-System Psychiatric Assessment

Counseling Image Takashi Matsuki, M.D. Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist Office Image

Your psychological well-being is shaped by multiple inter-related systems, such as medical, psychiatric psychological, social, behavioral, lifestyle, cultural, and spiritual. Trained in traditional psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and primary care medicine, Dr. Matsuki works within multiple systems to have a global understanding of issues affecting you, and develop a multi-system plan to address these issues.

Dr. Matsuki does his initial assessment in 1 to 2 sessions, each approximately 60 minutes. The comprehensive in-person assessment will include a deep exploration of your current condition, current stressors, mental health history, medical history, and life history. Diagnostic testing is often recommended to rule in or out any medical issue that may manifest itself as a psychiatric illness, and to explore any nutritional deficiencies that can be addressed using supplements and life style modifications.

After thorough evaluation, Dr. Matsuki will discuss a personalized treatment plan including recommended frequency and modes of treatment (medication management, psychotherapy, life style modification, exercise program, diet modification, supplement, management of underlying medical condition, etc.). If he thinks you need a treatment that is outside the scope of his practice, he will refer you to appropriate specialists.

Psychotherapy

While medications can alleviate the severity of your symptoms, medications are a part of the solution. In conjunction with medication management, ongoing psychotherapy in addition to education about medication management is often necessary to obtain the most successful outcome for you. Psychotherapy provides a safe, confidential, and supportive therapeutic environment where you can learn about yourself and create change in your life. Dr. Matsuki is trained to help people with a wide variety of psychological disorders to understand and change complex, deep-seated and often unconsciously based emotional and relationship problems thereby reducing symptoms and alleviating distress. Many people who experience a loss of meaning in their lives or who are seeking a greater sense of fulfillment will also benefit from psychotherapy.
